This is a quote from the article:
On sunny days, solar panels on the roof of Strizki’s detached garage generate more than enough electricity to power his home.
This is in New Jersey! Not the sunniest place in the world. I wonder why a place like Arizona, for instance, doesn’t have a vast majority of people using at least some solar power.
2 major reasons:
1. Costs are high (Installation; Maintenance; repairs, if any)
2. Energy output is very low and pretty fluctuating as compared to the conventional energies.
Do you think it’s a conspiracy that solar panels are so expensive?
They’ve been around for like 50 years now! I mean computer technology that is at one time considered state-of-the-art becomes a household item in less than a decade. You’d think after all this time they would have made it feasible for an average income family.
Do you think this is the work of big companies, who are trying to stem research that threatens the dependence of their customers?
I mean think about it, free power from the sun available to whoever wants it, that’s not good for anyone who’s in the market for selling power.
They are expensive to make and take silicon .

-Electricity generation using concentrated solar (trough mirrors) -No moving Parts, except for a pump! Small system requires no more than 33(+1-2)” x 33″ of space. Batteries also included in the total cost. -A 12Vdc Pump could be used instead, in which case you will not have to buy a power bar if your inverter only has one 120v socket. -Do not solder to these batteries! Use Tape or Crazy Glue for wires. -Welding only probable if you need to weld a metal container to the heat-sink. A good lesson in here on Connecting Batteries in Series and Parallel and Standard Thermoelectric Coolers. This version is for up to 60w. 1$ Tecs : cgi.ebay.com 1$ 5w Pump : cgi.ebay.com Trough Mirrors: www.youtube.com/greenpowerscience Chrome Film: Canadian Tire. Flat Metalic Plate (Thin Steel or aluminum) Flat black high temp Paint – Local Hardware store. *If you use an oil container, make sure there is space for expansion or a pressure release. Heated oil under pressure can be VERY dangerous! Batteries – Local Hardware Store (canadiantire) DC Wires – Local Hardware Store Ac Power Bar (2 or more sockets if your inverter does not have 2 sockets, 1 for the pump) – Local Hardware store 12Vdc – 120Vac mini power inverter: Local Hardware store and various places on the internet with great prices. Area in length required for top tec plate: 33″ Area in length required for Trough mirror: 33″ (+1-2″) Try it and see! Competitive to solar panels, Up to 5w per Module achieved. www.zennie62.com — Does PG&E wanto to screw San Francisco? If you consider that the utility doesn’t back using clean energy sources and has not met State of California guidelines for renewable energy, it sure seems so. You can change that with the passage of Proposition H – “Yes on H.” It’s the first initiative of its kind; tell your friends around America about it and have them call friends in San Francisco and tell them to vote “Yes On H”.

A short video showing the impacts of brown energy on communities in Southern California and the benefits to public health, air quality, and the economy available from reliance on California’s abundant renewable resources. Produced by CEERT with support from the Energy Foundation.
www.americanprogress.org National Clean Energy Project: Building the New Economy. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), a longtime champion of building a clean energy economy and Former President Bill Clinton, former Vice President Al Gore, former US Senator and United Nations Foundation President Timothy Wirth, business leader and clean energy advocate T. Boone Pickens and Center for American Progress Action Fund President John Podesta. The key theme of the forum: overcoming clean energy infrastructure challenges and reducing America’s dependence on foreign oil. The discussion will focus on guiding the transformation of our nation’s energy policies with particular attention on modernizing the electricity grid, integrating energy efficiency and distributed generation into its operation and regulation, rapidly increasing transmission capacity for renewable energy, and reducing our nation’s dependence on foreign oil through natural gas, plug-in hybrids, and batteries in the transportation and distribution system. The National Clean Energy Project builds on the August 2008 “National Clean Energy Summit” sponsored by Senator Reid, CAPAF, and the University of Nevada Las Vegas. The participants in the summit concluded that inadequate access to transmission was one of the most significant barriers to widespread development of renewable energy. The goal of this forum will be to discuss the best, most cost-effective options to “green the …
Does anyone know the name to an up and coming solar company that was on tv? (Science or Discovery Channel)?
The particular solar company I am refering to was not yet ready for the public market but claimed to be able to produce their photovoltaic panels (which were basically sheets of paper) for half the price of the photovoltaic panels we have available to us now. They also claimed that once they were ready for full scale production the price would be much lower. I can’t remember the specific channel I was watching but I’m pretty sure it was either the Science Channel or Discovery and it was a program about various alternative energy options. It was at least a couple months ago when I watched it. Any and all information would be helpful.
